Perfection can be very detrimental to our personal and professional growth. In a time where it seems like the need to be perfect is thrown at us daily, we need to remind ourselves it is ok to not be “perfect”. Taking a step back, really what does perfect even mean?, and why do we hold such a high value on what we think perfection is?
It is time that we shift the way we think, and time to put a high value on pursuing growth over “perfection”. Growth allows us to develop resilience, learn new things, and changes our mindset on our values and what is really important to us.
Forget perfection. What is the definition of your own personal success? What do you want to embrace, progress and achieve? What is important to you?
When times seem difficult or a struggle, and you feel like you are off track on your journey to personal success, know that setbacks and failures help in the growth process and to make you stronger.
Continue to embrace a growth mindset. Dedication, effort and continuous learning is critical in pursing personal growth. Remember not everyday you are going to feel like putting in 100% effort and that is okay, even if 1% is a struggle, step back, take a breath, rest and take on the next day.
To help you with putting in the dedication and effort, set realistic and specific goals. Allow these goals to align with your values and aspirations. Don’t make a goal because you saw it on social , or because a friend has that goal. Do it because it is important to you!
Break your potential successes down into smaller milestones that are achievable and measurable. Avoid setting perfectionistic standards that are unattainable, as they can lead to frustration and discouragement. Be open to adjusting your goals as you learn and grow, allowing room for flexibility and adaptation.
Define what growth means to you, not what perfection means to everyone else.
