Keep motivated to move your body

Staying motivated and sticking with a regular exercise routine can be challenging for everyone. Sometimes it’s easy to forget how crucial regular exercise is for maintaining physical and mental health.

Keeping motivated is a process and here are some tips to help in your journey

  • Set Clear Goals – What do you want to achieve through your routine and set specific, measurable and achievable goals. Write them down and track them regularly. No goal is too small.
  • Have a partner – I actually like to workout at the gym by myself for the most part. But having by hubby going with him everyday is my motivation to get there. Find a buddy to go to the gym with you or go walking. Motivate and challenge each other
  • Mix it up – doing the same routine everyday may get boring. Add in new activities or locations to keep you interested and engaged.
  • Reward yourself – and not with food. Doing so could start a unhealthy relationship with food. Instead rewards can be massages, new piece of clothing, spa etc.
  • Use Technology – if you love tech then using fitness apps or wearable devices will keep track of progress or goals. Ensure that you have a healthy relationship with tracking things. Read up on my blog post Should I get a fitness tracker for more info
  • Focus on the benefits – remind yourself, even if you have to write them down, the benefits of regular exercise. Improved mood, better sleep, increased energy, reduced chronic diseases etc. Try to take the focus away from scales, measurements and body size. That can be in your Set Clear Goals stage if that is your goal, however keep focus on health benefits
  • Make it a habit – schedule time to move. Mark it in your calendar like you would a meeting if you have to. Make it important just like a work meeting to can’t miss.

Staying motivated is a process. You will have setbacks and lack in motivation at times. However keep trying, don’t give up. Patience and persistence can help you stay motivated to keep moving.
