When You’re Just Not Feeling Motivated

I don’t know about you, but for me it seems I have had many days recently where there is just no motivation in me. It’s the days where you wake up and it just feels exhausting thinking of to-dos lists and goals. So let’s tackle some things we can do to help when in this lack of motivation state of mind.

Acknowledge & Accept – There’s no need to feel guilty or beat yourself up about it. Lack of Motivation is a natural feeling and recognizing that you’re not feeling motivated is a crucial first step to beating the slump. S#*! happens and some days we don’t feel it. It’s ok and let’s accept that.

Write it Down – Take some time to sit down think about why you may not feel motivated. Are you bored, overwhelmed, not feeling well, stressed etc. Trying to identify some of the sources for your lack of motivation can help you to determine what your next steps are.

Break Down Your Tasks – If you are overwhelmed with tasks at work or home, break them down into smaller tasks. You can only do so much in a day, accept that and break it down to make them realistic.

Take a Day – You know what, sometimes you just need a day. Take a day to not analyze or think about anything. Take a day to yourself. Your goals and dreams can wait a day if you are just not feeling it. Ensure you are only taking a day or two, it is easy to get into a routine of embracing a slump, and that can hinder your mental health as well.

Change your Environment – Sometimes, a change of scenery can work wonders for your motivation. If you’re feeling stuck, move to a different room, work outside, or rearrange your workspace. A change of environment can stimulate creativity and motivation.

Seek Motivation – Sometimes all you need is the right podcast, book or chat with a friend to ramp up motivation again. Reading about the achievements of others or listening to motivational speakers can reignite your passion for your tasks and goals.

When you’re just not feeling motivated, remember that it’s a temporary state of mind. With the right strategies, you can overcome the slump and get back on track towards your goals and your To Do Lists.

Acknowledge and accept your feelings, write down your feelings, break tasks into manageable pieces, change your environment, Take a Day, or seek inspiration. By implementing these techniques, you’ll be better equipped to tackle the challenges that come your way, even when motivation is in short supply.

Be kind to yourself.
